At The Humberston Church of England Primary School our school vision is 'Unlocking possibilities, making a difference. We aim to give every child the best chance to succeed by removing barriers to learning and preparing them for a happy and successful future. We believe that by working in partnership, we can ensure that all of our children achieve the best they possibly can in an environment that stimulates a love of learning. Through innovation, creativity and challenge we provide an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all our pupils whatever their needs and abilities. 

Our school will provide for any child with special educational needs and disabilities within the four broad area of need: communication and interaction; cognition and learning; social, emotional and mental health and sensory and/or physical needs. We recognise that pupils learn at different rates and that there are many factors affecting achievement. Early identification and intervention is paramount particularly in Key Stage One as maturity is a crucial factor in terms of readiness to learn. 

Our SENCo works closely with pupils, parents, teachers, the senior leadership team and external agencies to ensure we provide the best possible provision for any pupil who is experiencing difficulties with their learning. In order to do this, we remove barriers to learning by following a graduated response. This involves assessing our children so we can plan, implement personalised provision and then review the impact through a cycle of assess, plan, do and review. 

If it is felt that your child would benefit from more intensive support, then you will be invited into school to discuss this and possibly refer your child to an external agency for further specialist support. Together we review your child’s progress and plan any the next stages of support.  We highly value parent/carer partnerships because you know your children better than we ever will. If you have any concerns about your child’s learning needs, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance. A meeting can then be arranged with the SENCO.
