Vision Statement

Throughout the teaching and learning of music, we want our children to have the wisdom,

knowledge and skills to flourish in their personal development. It is our hope that the children will

become resilient when exploring musical skills. At the Humberston C of E Primary School We

believe all elements of the curriculum are important in order for individuals to flourish holistically

and we aim to nurture all of the children’s talents.

In music, we aim to provide children with a range of experiences to unlock possibilities and

opportunities such as learning a musical instrument and composing their own music.

 

Curriculum Intent

Music is a universal language, which allows children to unlock opportunities for us to explore

various eras, periods, countries and cultures. We aim to expose the children to diversity within

music. At Humberston Church of England Primary School, we believe music is important as it

enables us to express and communicate ideas, thoughts and emotions. These opportunities for

exploration and expression allow children’s physical, social, spiritual and creative skills to develop.

 

At Humberston Church of England Primary School we aim to:

• Teach classroom music in such a way that the requirements of the National Curriculum are

fulfilled.

• Provide experiences, which promote confidence, self-esteem and development of the child.

• Promote a music curriculum, which gives equal access to all pupils.

• Promote a balanced programme, which builds on previous experiences and achievements.

• Promote the teaching of music in other areas of the curriculum.

• Give opportunities to incorporate and develop Computing skills within music.

• Provide opportunities to explore, appreciate and learn about music from other periods,

cultures and traditions where their opinion will be valued.

• Provide children with opportunities to explore musical vocabulary.

• Provide children with opportunities to compose their own music.

• Provide opportunities to learn new instruments.

 

To enable the flourishing of all we enable children to:

• Know and understand how sounds are made and then organised into music structures.

• Know how music is made through a variety of instruments.

• Know how music is composed and written down.

• Know how music is influenced by the time, place and purpose for which it was written.

• Develop the inter-related skills of performing, composing and appreciating music.

 

In the Early Years children engage in a range of activities within expressive art and design relating

to their current topic where they are given the opportunities to perform songs and rhymes by

themselves or with others and to explore a range of tuned and untuned instruments.
