Vision Statement

 

Through teaching and learning, we want our children to have the wisdom, knowledge and skills to flourish. It is our hope that our children will develop their sense of awe and wonder through exploring a diverse range of artists and become appreciative of the arts.

 

We aim to provide our children with opportunities to explore different styles of art and media. Having access to this enables the children to be inspired and unlock new possibilities by applying new techniques and creating their own individual artwork. Throughout the children’s time in our school, they will explore a range of techniques and skills which may not always be easy. These skills will take motivation, practise and resilience to become refined in order to create a final piece. Our Bible scripture of ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’ Philippians 4:13 reminds us that we can draw upon God’s strength and guidance and challenge ourselves to hone new skills, which one day may make a difference to ourselves and others.

 

Curriculum Intent:

 

At Humberston CE Primary School we aim;

• To give children an art curriculum which enables all pupils to flourish and feel valued when sharing their work with others.

• To provide children in EYFS to develop their fine motor skills and explore a range of materials and media.

• To prepare learners for lifelong learning and unlock possibilities in themselves by providing opportunities to pursue their interests and talents.

• To facilitate the opportunity to participate in and experience a broad and balanced range of activities as part of a rich exciting, thematic curriculum.

• To plan opportunities for learners to be creative, express themselves and broaden their horizons.

• To provide a powerful tool which can support a progress range of skills such as the development of knowledge, concepts and skills, and enhance the learning process across the curriculum.

• To provide the children with substantive knowledge of different artists and skills.

• To provide children with opportunities to use apply disciplinary knowledge and produce creative pieces.

• To offer opportunities for learners to feel valued and express themselves, enjoy themselves and be successful. This supports children to become more spiritual and have a deeper understanding of themselves and their talents.

• To enable individuals and groups of learners to achieve excellence and enjoyment.

• To enable learners to develop their intellectual, aesthetic and critical faculties.

• To encourage the use of art and design as an effective medium for achieving other educational objectives.

• To encourage resilience through practising artistic skills and develop confidence in their capabilities. 

• To enrich the curriculum for all learners through activities which access all areas of the curriculum, different cultures and those which reflect our local community.

• To develop an understanding of the cultural, spiritual and social purposes of art and design. Exploring art from different cultures will enable the children to be more spiritual by having a deeper understanding of the wider world.

• To give children opportunities to be agents of change and use art as a means of expressing their opinions and thoughts of current situations in the world.

• To develop an understanding of the values and attitudes expressed through art and design from a range of historical, social and cultural contexts;

• To develop creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills across the curriculum;

• To expose children to a diverse range of artists from different cultures and periods.
