Our PE Curriculum

Vision Statement

Through teaching and learning in PE, we want our children to have the physical and mental skills to live their lives in fullness. It is our hope that our children will become resilient across many sporting domains, whilst given opportunities to develop and flourish in a range of roles and responsibilities through school sport.

We aim to provide our children with a variety of sporting opportunities both inside and outside of school time to unlock new possibilities for themselves and others. This will be achieved through extra-curricular provision, intra and inter competitions, whilst making wider links to community clubs, delivery of specialist workshops and facilitating opportunities to meet role models and influential athletes- both locally and nationally.

Curriculum Intent

We at Humberston Church of England Primary School believe that Physical Education is fundamental to developing children’s knowledge, skills and understanding in and enjoyment of physical activity, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics and outdoor and adventurous activities. PE involves thinking, selecting and applying skills, and it promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus, P.E. is unique in providing pupils with the ability to develop a wide range of life skills through sport, irrespective of age, gender or ability.

We provide opportunities for the children to develop:

  • A positive, active and healthy lifestyle
  • An understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses
  • An understanding of their bodies in action
  • Co-ordination, mobility and strength
  • Co-operation and teamwork
  • Sense of fair play and the need for rules
  • Strategies and tactics to cope with different situations
  • An appreciation and understanding of the value of physical activity
  • An awareness of safety requirements and responsible attitudes towards themselves and others
  • Transferable skills through experiences and trips
  • Skills in variety of extra-curricular provision
