This term we blasted off, to learn all about Earth and Space. We have been learning about our solar system and the names of the planets in it. We have compared the sizes of the different planets in comparison to the sun. Also, we have explained how we get day and night by investigationg how the sun appears to move across the sky. We have measured, recorded and used patterns in changes of our shadows throughout the day to support evidence that this is caused by the Earth's rotation on its axis. We have enjoyed learning about the Moon and the Moon Phases, space exloration including the James Webb telescope which was launched in Christmas day. Significant people such as Tim Peake and Neil Armstrong and their contributions to space exploration. Experts think the Space X rocket (Falcon 9 launched from Florida in 2015 on an uncrewed mssion) is on course to hit the Moon in a matter of weeks (March 2022)? As budding scientists we await the first images from the world's most advanced telescope and if this rocket does infact hit the Moon!

Our second topic this term is 'Misty Mountains and Raging rivers' where we will be exploring the characteristics and features of a river, including how they shape the landscape over time and their significance around the world. We will have the opportunity to learn more about the stages of the water cycle, how to locate and block geographical places on a map as well as find out how contour lines are used to show topography of an area. As we dive deeper into the Misty Mountains topic, we will locate and describe the key features of mountain ranges around the world, climates and consider how tourism affects mountain regions.
