Violin practice
Class 6 really enjoy their violin lessons now that they are up and running again.
Exploring the effects of the human digestive system!
Class 6 have been learning about the human digestive system in Science.
Demonstration.
We wanted to find out what happenes when the food we eat reaches our stomach. We discovered that our stomachs are like a large sack which churns our food with strong acid.
We mixed bread and coke together in a zip sealed bag to see the effects of this.
Practical activity..
The muscles in our oesophagus squeezes down the food, just like a tube of toothpaste. We found out that if you squeeze the tube behind the toothpaste, the toothpaste is forced along the tube and out of the other side.
We are really excited to learn lots more exciting facts in Science this term!
Class 6
In year 4/5 we have been working on a new and exciting project, to design a new protoype. Jessica, Grace, Isaac, Penny and Amelia wanted to design something amazing that was going to help homeless people in the future. They created a backpack called 'Big Star'.
ROAR 2021 Winners!
All of the amazing ideas that the children created went through to a judging process, where the 'Big Star' backpack was chosen as the final winners. Well done to Grace, Jessica, Amelia, Isaac and Penny who will now go against other schools in the virtual Nations Awards Day, with the hope to be the overall winners for ROAR 2021!
Children in need 2021!
Class 6 got into the 'Children in Need spirit' by dressing up in their favourite fancy dress costumes, Pudsey outfits and wore lots and lots of spots. We raised lots of money for a very special cause, great job!

Class 6 Christingle service
Class 6 have been busy making their Christingles in class this year. We learned all about Christingle and the reasons why we decorate our oranges just like this.

Exploring our solar system.
Class 6 have are really enjoying learning about the planets in our solar system. This week, we have been learning the order in which our planets are in. We came up with an acrostic poem as a class to help us rememeber the order in which they go!

World Book Day 2022!
Class 6 have all really enjoyed taking part in World Book Day today. We have seen some fantastic costumes and even Miss Townley joined in with the fun and came in dressed as Miss Trunchbull. Super effort class 6!
Teddy Bear Pyjama Tea Party
Due to Class 6's extreme politeness, we collected enough polite points and therefore earned a special treat!
We chose to have a 'Teddy Bear Pyjama Tea Party'. We had so much fun dressing up in our pyjamas, bringing in our favourite teddy and playing lots of party games.
Red Nose Day 2022!
Class 6 have had lots of fun in school today, taking part in all activities to do with red nose day.

Gymnastics champion!
Summer competed in a gymnastics competition on the weekend. Summer won 1st in vault, 1st on floor, 1st on bars and even won 1st overall! Summer attends training sessions every single week to practice her gymnastics skills and it sure is paying off.
Well done Summer, we are very proud of you.
Spreading kindness
As part of our P.S.C.H.E lesson on kindness, we wrote a kind message on a piece of paper to someone else in the class. We then took the piece of paper with us onto the field, sat in a circle and read our kind messages out one by one.
It was so lovely to see the children spreading so much kindness and seeing lots of smiles on everyone's faces.

Noah designed a fabulous crown for our crown competition in school and he won the runner's up certificate. Well done Noah, we loved your crown!
The Queen's platinum jubilee
We have had lots of fun today celebrating the Queen's platinum jubilee! We designed crowns, drew pictures of the Queen and found out lots of important information about why we are celebrating the Queen's platinum jubliee. Great efforts with your crowns class 6!
Polite point treat!
Due to class 6's extreme politness, we earned a special treat. We chose to have a picnic on the playground, host a talent show competition and even wear our summer clothes for the occasion. We had lots of fun!
Seasonal food.
As part of our topic in D.T this term, 'seasonal food' we have been exploring where different seasonal food comes from.
Taste tasting.
We decided to taste a variety of different seasonal foods to judge for ourselves what they tasted like, looked like and smelt like.
Our opinions..
Class 6 tasted radish, spring onion and rocket. There were many mixed reviews! Some children enjoyed the taste of the foods and enjoyed the strong taste of the spring onion and some did not!

Class 7 - Forces
We have been investigating the effects of air resistance.
Earth and Space
In Class 7 we have been learning about space and our solar system.
The children have done lots of research and created some fantastic posters explaining the planets in our solar system.
We have also been doing some fantastic space artwork with pastels, using lots of different technqiues to blend colours together.
Cricket
Class 7 have been learning lots of new skills in cricket. They have been learning how to bowl and bat and applying those skills to a game of cricket.
World Book Day
Class 7 have all really enjoyed taking part in World Book Day today, coming to school dressed up as their favourite book characters. We have seen some fantastic costumes and even Miss Woolliss joined in with the fun and came dressed up as Matilda. Super effort Class 7!

Anglo-Saxon settlement game
The settlement game introduced the children to both the multiple causal factors involved and the chronology of the settlement period.
By the end of the game the pupils developed an idea of the settlement pattern of Anglo-Saxon England.

Investigating Air Resistance
We planned and carried out our own investigation to find out about the affects of air resistance. Some children chose to change the size of their parachute and found out that the parachute with the larger surface area had more air resistance acting it. Others chose to investigate the type of material that would be best for a parachute.
Water Resistance
We investigated the relationship between shape and speed. The challenge was to make a shape which would go the fastest and the slowest. It was very competitive but the winners of the fastest had the most streamlined shape and the slowest was flat with a largest surface area.
Friction
Who can pick up the jelly quickest with the chopsticks?
Slippery Jelly
We added vegetable oil to the jelly which made it really tricky to pick up the jelly.
Budding Scientists!
Class 8 enjoyed investigating friction to understand the effects of friction on the movement of objects.
Racing Rockets!
We investigated which material would be the best track to race our rocket balloons. we found that the smooth wire was the best beacuse their was less friction. However, our challenge was then to use what we had learnt in our jelly challenge to reduce the friction on the string track. We added oil and it was much quicker!

Religious Education
Islam - Key Beliefs
We solve the riddles to find all the pieces of the puzzle to make the arabic word for God (Allah).
Harmony
We had a race where one team had obstacles and the other team didn't. We discussed the race and how it's easier when there are no obstacles. Muslims believe that God has set out a straight path for humans to follow to help them keep things in harmony.
Muslim Beliefs
We repeated the race, removing the obstacles, but blindfolding the children in one team. In one race the children raced without help and in the other they had guidance from their team mates. We discussed how it was easier with guidance and how Muslim's also believe that God (Allah) has given them guidance to follow the straight path (shariah).
Guidance
We learnt that Muslim's believe God has given humans guidance to help them follow the straight path - the natural world to study, the Qur'an (the holy book) and the Prophets.
Equivalent Fractions
We made our own fraction strips to investigate equivalent fractions.
Long Multiplication
We practised our long multiplication and came up with our own rhym to remember the method. So remember add a zero when you multiply by 10!
The Changing Faces of the Moon!
We lit our moon (plasticine ball model) from the front to show that when the sun shines directly on the moon it lights it all up so we can see it all. Then we carried out an investigation and found that we could only see part of our moon model. This is like when the moon has moved around the earth becuase the light from the sun hits it in different ways, creating the phases of the moon

It was much trickier than we thought but we persevered and created some great 'Phases of the Moon' which we photographed to add to our non-chronological reports about the Moon.
Collaborative Learning
We worked together as a group to draw and measure our shadows.
How do shadows change throughout the day?
We investigated and recorded how shadows change throughout the day. We measured our shadows and looked for patterns in our results. The shortest shadow occured when the sun reached its highest point at noon because it is above our head. The longest was in the morning at 9:30am when we took our first measurement.
Accurate Measurements
To make it a fair test, we made sure that the same person stood in the exact same spot and facing the same direction each time we drew around our shadow. We worked together with a metre ruler to ensure our measurements were accurate and recorded our results.

Children got into the 'World Book Day' spirit in their fantastic costumes! We had great fun doing a range of activities which included sharing a book with the children in class three and decorating our own book bags.
