Year 3 trip to Gainsborough Old Hall

On Thursday 9th June 2022, Class 5 went on a school trip to Gainsborough Old Hall.

This term, we have been learning all about 'The Tudors' and we have learnt so much in class already. We have been learning about Henry VII and his son Henry VIII. We have learnt about different Tudor buildings and what they are made of and even practiced some Tudor dancing.

We have really enjoyed learning about the Tudors, which meant that we were super excited to visit an old Tudor building called Gainsborough Old Hall.

Class 5 (and the grown ups!) all had a fantastic time and really enjoyed experiencing first hand what a real Tudor building was like.

We had a tour of the beautiful house and looked at all of the rooms that were still in original condition, we got very tired climbing all of the steps!

The best part of the trip was when we had to assist preparing a feast for none other than King Henry VIII. The children all dressed up in costume and played their parts well. We even had Henry VIII and Catherine Howard come and visit us!

We learnt about how people had different levels of importance, which determined where in the Great Hall they were allowed to be seated and what cutlery they had.

We had a food taster to make sure that Henry's food was not poisoned, a jester to tell jokes and we even had some juggling.  Luckily Henry VIII really enjoyed the feast and we all got to keep our heads!

Class 5 behaved so well and joined in with all of the activities and role play enthusiastically. The woman in charge even commented on how fantastic they were and said that they are welcome anytime. Well done Class 5, you really represented Humberston CofE to a high standard and you should be so proud of yourselves.
