Alongside the recommended resources and links, these are the key skills your child would benefit from practising at home on a regular basis. The activities below are completely optional and the timings are only a guide as we do not want to add extra pressure at home during an already challenging time.

EYFS 

• (Daily) Reading for pleasure - Enjoying a story together - get comfy and cosy and enjoy a range of books. 
• (Daily) Phonics - Your child will have already learnt many sounds and the graphemes (letters) that represent them. Your child's phonics packs that have been sent home throughout the year will help you to know which sounds your child has already been taught. You might like to check your child can read all of the sounds and help them to read and write CVC (Consonant/Vowel/Consonant) words such as cat/dog/hat/log/bun. As your child becomes more confident, they could try writing captions to lable a picture or sentences about a picture. 
• (Daily) Maths - Recognition of all the numbers up to 20, being able to write the digits 0-9, counting to 20 and addition and subtraction of small amounts using practical objects. This could be done through play, asking your child to count /add/subtract their lego or toy dinosaurs as they play with them.

Year 1

(Daily) Reading

Try to read a range of books - (fiction/non-fiction – novels / comics/ magazines /websites /newspapers). Again, we are always trying to promote a love of reading so enjoying a book together will be very beneficial to your child. 

Activities you could try

• Write a description of the main character or setting
• Summarise the story or chapter into a few sentences
• Write a book review or recommendation
• Create a fact file from the information

(Daily) Practise the  common exception spellings (your child will know them as 'red words' because they can't be sounded out)

• Look, cover, write, check
• Speed write a word repeatedly and see how many times you can write it in 60 seconds
• Have a test
• Create a word search or cross word using the spellings.
• Learn what the words mean
• Explore spelling rules.

 

(Daily) Maths

• Reading and writing all numbers up to 30 - 50 if able.
• Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s
• Doubling numbers

You could try;

• Online games
• Write them out in order
• Jumble them up
• Test yourself
• Learn the related division facts
• Roll a dice or pick two playing cards and multiply the numbers together
• Play rock paper scissors with a partner by holding up an amount of fingers. Race to multiply your own and partners numbers together
