Dear parents/carers, 

We would like to thank you for your patience over the last few weeks since the Government’s announcement on the reopening of schools. The Local Authority have now concluded their risk assessments and agreed the approach to a wider opening of Humberston Church of England Primary School. 

As you can imagine it has been an extremely difficult and complex task preparing for a wider opening. We now have very strict criteria for how we can open and school will look very different for us all, however we really are looking forward to welcoming those we can back. 

From Monday 8th June we will be able to open to some more key workers and vulnerable children across all year groups, however we are very sad to say that our site is not large enough to also open to Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 6 children whilst conforming to the socially distanced requirements of the Local Authority and Government. 

We understand that this may be upsetting and unhelpful for some parents whose children will not be offered a place. The Local Authority have an email address you may contact to see if they can find your child a place elsewhere but we have been informed that this is highly unlikely as most schools are in the same position with limited capacity. 

Those parents whose children will be offered a place will receive an email this morning to confirm their child has a place and a further email next week with the full arrangements.

Dear Parents/ Carers, 

 

You will have seen so much worrying and conflicting advice in the news and I am sure many of you will have concerns, as we do, regarding the safety implications of starting the phased opening of schools.

 

We hope to be able to help you with your decision making by explaining some of the ways we are being asked to work when school re-opens . 

 

Firstly, we are being asked to keep children two metres apart where possible, however it has been accepted in the guidance we have received that this will be impossible for our younger children. Therefore we are being asked to put our children into smaller groups of no more than 15. Smaller classes will not mean that social distancing will happen it is just to keep children from mixing with too many other people. We are looking at smaller class sizes and this will mean that your children will not necessarily be with their friends or their class teacher or in the same classroom.  

 

Secondly, I am sure you are concerned regarding your child’s education. We are in a very fortunate position that we have  a fantastic team of teaching staff  and parents that will do all they can to support our children’s education when we come back together as a full school. With regard to the phased opening of schools we have been asked to use reasonable endeavours to deliver learning but it is appreciated that we will not be able to provide a normal education for your children due to children not being taught by their teachers and particularly in the younger year groups where we are being advised not to use much of the equipment we would normally use in our teaching for hygiene reasons. 

 

We hope this helps with your decision as to whether you intend to send your Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 child back to school. We welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with you, please email the office (please include your child’s name and a phone number) and we will be in touch. 

 

In order to support us with our preparations please can you email as soon as possible and before Tuesday at noon whether you intend to send your Reception,  Year 1 and Year 6 child into school on 1^stJune if the Government decision is to open. At the moment we are not able to guarantee that we will be able to open for all of the proposed year groups. Once we have an idea of numbers we will be able to complete our risk assessments and will share our schools planned phased opening. Also, please can any key worker parents advise if they require a place form 1^stJune. 

 

Please be assured that whatever your decision, you and your child will not be penalised for non-attendance and they will not miss out on their formal education. We will continue to keep in contact with you and support each other in these difficult and uncertain times.

Dear school family, 

We hope you are all staying safe and we continue to wish you well. 

We have now received updated guidance from the Department for Education about the proposed phased reopening of schools in England. As I am sure you will appreciate, there is much to prepare and many considerations to make as we navigate our way through this unchartered way of working in order to keep everyone safe. Over the coming days and weeks, we will be working hard to develop our strategy to make school as safe as is possible for children, families and staff in line with Government guidance.

Dear school family, 

We hope you are all staying safe and we continue to wish you well. 

There has been a lot of speculation in the press about when and how children will return to school. We are very keen for the Government to open school again but are very clear that this will need to be safe for children, safe for parents, safe for staff and safe for the wider community before this can happen.

As we move towards the Government’s second phase, a new horizon will emerge and we will keep you up to date with any changes as we know them. You will have seen that schools are finding out changes at the same time as you are during the daily press conferences. We certainly don’t know any more than you at this time regarding what the future for schools looks like. 

During the first phase, we have been working very hard and ensuring our vulnerable families are safe and well and that the website is kept up to date with our thoughts on home learning and any relevant resources. We have also been in contact with any families asking for support via the office email address. We are following Government guidelines and working with the Local Authority to support our vulnerable families, some of you will also have been contacted by the Local Authority offering further support. 
However if you or anyone in your family has not been contacted and feel you need support please do not hesitate to contact us via the office email address office@hcep.co.uk

Reverend Louise at St Peters Church has also offered to say prayers for any of our families who would like this, please send requests through to the office. 

As we have said, there is no pressure for parents from us regarding quantities of home learning as we understand these times are demanding on all of our physical and emotional well being. The home learning website continues to be updated with any new resources available and the topic sheets and year group specifics continue to be relevant. Consolidating knowledge and skills at this time is much better than trying to teach new concepts at home. Lots of parents are finding the National Oak Academy useful as this provides online lessons with both a structured and a dip in and out approach. On our website each class now has a gallery where we hope to stay connected with each other by sharing any work or photos of any creations you are proud of. We are conscious that this is a stressful time for our children and many will be missing school, their friends and teacher. Many will have also created work that they would like to share and some children may like a little inspiration from their friends at this challenging time.  If you feel your child would benefit from sharing any of their photos or work with their teacher and friends on our website, please email copies to hcepdisplayphotos@gmail.com  The work and photos can be of any learning for example baking, den building or star gazing. Please write your child's name and class number in the subject box of the email. 

In these troubling times the main focus for everyone is keeping each other safe. Please stay safe, we can’t wait to see you all again soon.
