Prayer Day Friday 13th September 2019
Class 2 joined the whole school in thinking about what praying means to Christians.
We began by talking about what we understood about prayer and how we can talk to God about anything. We remembered how the previous day we had sat quietly and still watching a candle flicker and listening to some quiet music.
We talked about prayer spoons which can help us to think about what we might want to say.
The ‘t’ spoon helps us to think about what we can say thank you to God for. Suggestions included saying thank you for the world He had created for us, trees, plants and animals, electricity, presents and cars.
The ‘s’ spoon is for sorry – ideas included being sorry for when we hadn't looked after the world, or hurt each other.
The ‘p’ is for please – what can we ask God to help us with. This was hard for us to think about but we decided we needed help to look after the world.
We wrote or drew our ideas on big paper spoons.
Pebbles
We looked carefully at a collection of pebbles and saw that each one was different and unique. This helped us to think about how we are all different and unique too.
To make each pebble even more unique and special to us we decorated a pebble each.
We ended the afternoon by placing our unique pebbles on a special plate and lit a candle in the middle. The light from the candle reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world and that we belong to Jesus and shine in his light.
We were still as Mrs Gallop said a prayer using our ideas. We all said Amen to ask God to let our prayer be so.
